“They thought the idea is brilliant... They love the professional design of the prototype.”

- Nicole, Client

This is a quote from my client once we finished the project and I could not be more excited for her. When she first reached out to me, all she had was a problem that she wanted to solve. I was able to lay down some basic concepts to start giving the idea some form and have something that we could work with. More on the process below.

Problem.

The client was frustrated that at her workplace, co-workers would constantly get lost trying to find their next meeting room due to the size of the campus. This was leading to an extra 30mins of unnecessary meeting time.

Goal.

My goal was to help her put together a design that would materialize a solution for this problem. But more importantly, creating a prototype that she could use to sit down with her employer and pitch it as a valuable solution.

Design Requirement.

“It has to be yellow. Bright yellow”, she said. That was my client’s preference so I made sure to base my design around the color yellow and still create a readable experience given we had to include schedules, times, and dates.

Tech Requirement.

Ensuring compatibility with Microsoft Outlook and focusing on a “Log in with Outlook” button, was key to showcase we had done our research and that this app could be easily integrated with the employer’s codebase.

Challenges.

Indoor mapping technology was still in early development and the costs of the technology were high. But, I ensured to design that experience to showcase we were thinking ahead.

Results.

The fact that the client was able to not only get a meeting with her employer but get approval to further develop the application was the best outcome I could have hoped for.

Closing Remarks.

This project for me was a great example of what simple UI/UX design can do to make an idea tangible and create new business opportunities.

Update 2022.

I am happy to report that Next Steps is now a company with over 20 employees.
